Choosing a Good VPN Service Provider

While we agree that technological advances are on the upswing today, we must also understand that internet scams are on the rise. When we do our transactions online, we can never be sure of our information staying safe as cyber-crime experts can hack our confidential data anytime. Data security has gone for a toss, and lots of people have been suffering mental and financial losses over the last few years. The only solution to get rid of this problem is to do transactions and browsing through a VPN (Virtual Private Network).

This network provides you ultimate security even when you browse data through public Wi-Fi networks, ensuring that you have a private IP so that nobody can track your destination and does not keep any logs of your browsing history. When you are using a VPN, you can download and upload data with utmost confidentiality as you are safe from the clutches of cyber criminals. With this network, you can also watch some of the Netflix shows from countries like the US, UK and Canada on your system, even though they are banned in your relative countries. Choosing a good and secured network will never let you see a " Netflix Proxy Error " message on your screen. Here are a few factors that you need to keep in mind when you choose a VPN service.

Geographical spread

One of the first things that you should check when choosing a VPN service provider is the number of servers it has all over the world. Choose a network that has its servers spread across different geographical locations so that you can enjoy TV and web shows from different countries, even though it is banned in your destination.

Internet Logging

The main purpose of a VPN network is to protect your internet data and browsing history from miscreants. However, you need to be sure if the service provider itself is guilty of keeping a log of your browsing history. Choose a network that does not keep tabs on your information information and does not maintain any logs to track your history.

After-esales support

This is an important factor that decides the credibility of a VPN service provider. Once you have chosen a network and started using it, you may face some problems in connecting to the servers of your choice, or you may require help with troubleshooting your network. In times like these, you should have professional support from your service provider, to make the process hassle-free for you. Here, you need to choose a service that is available 24/7 in the form of live chat, telephone support, email support and the like, to help you with your issues.

Price & Speed

Check for the different plans for the VPN service provider and the speed that they are offering you. Also, compare the pricing of each plan and analyze if the networks are providing a free-trial or a money-back guarantee. These are the factors that will help you decide if the services of that company are worth your money or not. Read through reviews on the internet to see what users have got to say about the speed of the service and their charges, so that you can take the right decision.

Pay as you go mobile phones have been increasingly popularly slowly. The popularity stems from the fact that they are so easy to acquire. With normal cell phone plans there are credit checks, security deposits and contracts, whereas with a pay as you go mobile phone, there are none of these things. You generally buy the phone with a set dollar amount already on it (usually $ 10), and all you have to do is call and activate it, no strings attached. With economic times being what they are right now; pay as you go cell phone deals are becoming much more affordable and convenient. A few even offer unlimited calling, internet, push-to-talk service, and text messages, along with many other features for a very low price per month. These new pay as you go plans are more affordable than many of their competitors' prices for contract phone plans and are increasing in popularity at a very fast rate.

Native, Web Or Hybrid App – Points of Difference

Before making an investment decision over mobile apps, businesses have to decide between native apps, hybrid apps and web apps.

Here I aim to define and describe the differences between various app categories not only for business owners but also for an app developer!

Which app is best and what are the major points of difference among the three?

Native Apps

They are installed in the device from an application store (such as the App Store, Google Play) and show up on the device as icons. They stay with the device and utilize the device features such as the camera, contact list, accelerometer, the GPS etc.

They are designed and coded to cater to one platform (for a specific device). For instance, iPhone apps are coded in Objective-C and the android apps are coded in Java. Coding apps in this manner helps users to have a responsive user experience and apps are able to integrate standard operating system gestures or new app defined gestures.

Native allow push notifications to be used by the business for real-time information for the users. They keep on functioning offline and can use the device's alert system. They function in accordance to the design and standards of the platform (either android or iOS) which leads to customer satisfaction.

They are platform specific (an iOS app will not work in an Android platform) due to difference in coding language. A business which seeks to develop an app which is operational in both the platforms would be expensive as it would require creating two different versions (for both platforms). Depending on budget, investment decision can be made to develop an app for single or multi-platform option. Example are Angry Birds, Shazam, etc.

Mobile Web App

They are mobile optimized web pages which are not actually apps but websites. They resemble a native app in look and feel and are ideal when the objective is to make information or features available over a mobile phone and developing a native app is not a viable option financially.

Coded in HTML 5, they run on a browser and users access them just like normal web pages. They provide an option of installing them to home screen as a bookmark.
Many websites use HTML 5 to turn their web pages in to web app for users which can appear as appealing as a native app. Example being the mobile optimized web pages of news websites.

Web app has limited functionality and generally requires an internet connection to function. Users can easily forget them unless they run as a constant reminder on their home screen. They do not feature on any app marketplace. With huge daily traffic in the application stores, they miss out on the potential to be discovered as compared to native or hybrid app.

Hybrid Apps

Hybrid apps are a combination of native and web app and are downloaded from an App store. Faster and cheaper to develop than the native, they are better than browser-based web app.

They are developed using web technologies which are compatible across multiple platforms and are coded in HTML 5, CSS, and JavaScript. However, for enhanced user experience, sometimes specific native code is also used. Tools like PhoneGap and Secha Touch enable cross-platform designing and coding, by using HTML.

Organizations go for hybrid apps to make their presence in the application store without making significant investment of money or effort in developing a separate application.

However, if the company wants to go too close to a native design, the cost and coding effort would rise making the development difference between a native and hybrid app insignificant. Examples of hybrid app include Facebook, LinkedIn, Banana Republic etc.

Which to Choose

The decision to choose a category of app entirely depends on the client's need – the best return to his business based on user requirements. If the primary requirement of the organization is to provide content for its readers, a responsive web application would be better. On the other hand, native app would be advantageous for task completion.

A user can decide upon a category depending on the application's compatibility with device features, need offline / online task completion, speed factors, ease of maintenance, dependability on platforms, content limitations, ease of installation and fees involved.

Maintaining a web app is much simpler for both the user and the developer as it involves maintaining web pages while native are complicated as developers need to code the same information for multiple versions across different platform.

Application stores pose various limitations on content and design of the application with variable in subscription cost. Web apps, on the contrary are free of content censure and less taxing in terms of cost and time. Hybrid and web apps are comparatively cheaper to develop than native.

If the client's priority is enhanced user experience compatible with a specific platform, in which a lot of apps are available, it is best to develop a native app. At the same time, even web and hybrid app can provide a good user experience with variation in graphics and visuals.

To conclude, native, web, or hybrid apps are all tools for a mobile user to satisfy variable needs and requirements. There is no specific solution as each category of app has their own strengths and weaknesses and going for one of them depend on the client's unique need assessment.

Speak To People, Not Machines

In this era of Facebook, Twitter and email, crucial face-to-face communication skills have been lost or put aside indefinitely. There has been a sharp decline in face-to-face communication in favour of instant contact overload. Because of this, people are losing vital opportunities to connect and network.

Technology is great, and I wouldn’t be without it. But face-to-face communication can give us some of the most enriching experiences. Human interaction keeps you alert and allows you to truly connect with another person, an asset that is completely lost in instant communication. Face-to-face communication is also the most effective form of networking that can contribute to your success. Here are 8 tips to help you with your face-to-face interactions today:

1. Initiate face-to-face communication.

Email is fast, but it can be easily misinterpreted, leading to sticky situations. More information is relayed with face-to-face communication. Especially if there is a chance of conflict, meet in person to diffuse negative feelings and enforce the understanding that we all have emotions and can be sensitive to issues. Meet in person to establish real connections.

2. Be aware of body language, facial expressions and eye contact.

Use these tools to your benefit. Visually convey interest, openness and attention. Be sure to watch the other person for visual subtleties, but be careful not to misinterpret.

3. Keep your eye on the goal.

Social chit-chat is good, but don’t forget why you wanted to initiate communication in the first place. Use face-to-face contact to help you clarify your message. It allows you to make sure that the message is understood and well received.

4. Make the conversation count.

Do not drift through topics. Pay attention to the conversation and the people involved. You want to be able to walk away remembering what was discussed and feeling like the interaction was successful.

5. Be real and sincere.

Be there in the present, not in your own head or, even worse, on your phone. Stay alert to speak with confidence and interest. Give the other speaker your full attention.

6. Be sensitive to the other person’s time.

Do not spend 20 minutes when you asked for 10, and don’t side step around issues. Staying present will allow you to communicate clearly and contribute to a successful conversation.

7. Be prepared.

Know what the topic of the conversation is before you start. If discussing ideas with a colleague or superior, know what you want the outcome of the conversation to be.

8. Face to face communication is collaboration.

Every communication is give and take. Take the initiative to start face-to-face communication and give the other person your full attention.

Face-to-face communication is the most complete, most powerful form of conversation. Do not avoid it, but embrace it and make it work for you. Do not pass up the opportunities that come from connecting with another person

Shirley’s Top Tip:

Feeling burnt out in the middle of your working day? Have what scientists call a ‘human moment’! Interacting with another human being gives our brains stimulation that we don’t get from computers. Our brains have to interpret visual and vocal cues every second, demanding focus and intellectual involvement. It keeps our brains sharp and alert and stimulates emotional reactions. A ‘human moment’ can give you that burst of energy you need while at the same time connecting you to another person, making your day feel that much more successful.

Web Spiders, Sometimes Referred to As Web Crawlers

A spider is a software program that travels the Web (hence the name "spider"), locating and indexing websites for search engines. All the major search engines, such as Google and Yahoo !, use spiders to build and update their indexes. A spider is a program that visits Web sites and reads their pages and other information in order to create entries for a search engine index. The major search engines on the Web have such a program, which is also known as a "crawler" or a "bot." Spiders are typically programmed to visit sites that have been submitted by their owners as new or updated. There are many thousand different kinds of spiders.

Crawling

Crawling is fast, thanks to multithreading that allows up to 50 simultaneous threads. Crawlers can also be used for automating maintenance tasks on a website, such as checking links or validating HTML code. Also, can be used to gather specific types of information from Web pages, such as harvesting e-mail addresses (usually for spam). Crawling the internet can start from a single point (starting with a popular website containing lots of links, or from an existing, older indexes of websites.) The crawler (also known as a web robot or web spider) is a software program that can download web content (mainly web pages but also, in some cases, images, documents and other files) and then follow links within these web pages to download the linked content.

Visual

Visual Web Spider extracts titles, keywords, description, plain text content, HTML content, size and last modified time from the web pages. It allows you to export the extracted data into Microsoft Access database, text file (ASCII), Excel file (CSV), HTML file, mySQL database, directory management system. Visual Web Spider is a website crawler, fully automated, multithreaded web robot. It helps you to populate a database of websites, META data and locate relevant information for research purposes.

Search

Search engines such as Lycos and Alta Vista, have become a commercial success as a result of our desire for information. Search Submit comes in two flavors, Basic and Pro, with the Pro version offering the advantage of providing greater control over the way your listings are presented, helping to raise your click appealing.

Spider technology is necessary because the amount of information being added to the Internet on a daily basis is more than any human team can index. Spider technology is not unusual; it is now used by all the leading search engines. However, the advanced ways in which Google is able to compare the data collected is what has put them on top.

Most Significant Advantages Of Java Language

Java has gained immense popularity since it first appeared. Its rapid ascension and wide acceptance can be traced to its design and programming features, particularly in its promise that you can write a program once, and run it anywhere. Java was chosen as the programming language for network computers (NC) and has been perceived as a universal front end for the enterprise database. As stated in Java language white paper by Sun Microsystems: "Java is a simple, object-oriented, distributed, interpreted, robust, secure, architecture neutral, portable, multi threaded, and dynamic."

Java (TM) has significant advantages over other languages and environments that make it suitable for just about any programming task.

The advantages of Java are as follows:

o Java is easy to learn.

Java was designed to be easy to use and is there easy to write, compile, debug, and learn from other programming languages.

o Java is object-oriented.

This allows you to create modular programs and reusable code.

o Java is platform-independent.

One of the most significant advantages of Java is its ability to move easily from one computer system to another. The ability to run the same program on many different systems is crucial to the World Wide Web software, and Java succeeds in this being platform-independent at both the source and binary levels.

o Java is distributed.

Java is designed to make distributed computing easy with the networking capability that is inherently integrated into it. Writing network programs in Java is like sending and receiving data to and from a file.

o Java is secure.

Java receivers security as part of its design. The Java language, compiler, interpreter, and runtime environment were each developed with security in mind.

o Java is robust.

Robust means reliability. Java puts a lot of emphasis on early checking for possible errors, as Java compilers are able to detect many problems that would first show up during execution time in other languages.

o Java is multithreaded.

Multithreaded is the capability for a program to perform several tasks simultaneously within a program. In Java, multithreaded programming has been thoroughly integrated into it, while in other languages, operating system-specific procedures have to be called in order to enable multithreading.

Because of Java's robustness, ease of use, cross-platform capabilities and security features, it has become a language of choice for providing worldwide Internet solutions.

Structured Cable Systems for Telecommunications Rooms and Enclosures

Telecommunications rooms and telecommunications enclosures refer to sections in a building that house network equipment such as patch panels and cross-connects. The horizontal network cabling originates from these rooms.

Typically, the horizontal network cabling is terminated in termination blocks or patch panels and then it is distributed to other parts of the work area using horizontal pathways. Other networking equipment that may be found inside the communications room include switches, LAN hubs, repeaters and routers. It is also the place in the network where the backbone cables and equipment terminate.

The main purpose of the telecom enclosure is to serve a floor area that is quite smaller compared to that serviced by the telecom room. The cost of setting up a cabling system will differ depending on whether you are using telecom rooms or enclosures.

According to a comparison that was made by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), you will save a lot of money by using many telecom enclosures on a floor as compared to using telecommunications rooms. This research by TIA indicated that you could save up to thirty percent of the money that you could have used to set up telecommunications rooms.

If you choose to use telecommunications rooms, the design and specifications you will use will be very important. The best design will be to stack the telecommunications rooms vertically between floors. When setting up the communications rooms, you will need to do it with utmost care to avoid tight bends, cable stress, wrapping the cable too tightly, staples as well as excessive tension to the cables. With good cable management techniques, managing such pitfalls should not be a big problem.

When setting up a network, usually there are specifications or goals that you would like to achieve. You will there before need to make sure that the cables and cable products are compliant to the goals that you would like to achieve both in the short run and in the long run. Short term goals you may want to achieve may include efficiency of operations in your company and fast delivery of services to customers. In the long run, you should ensure that the products you use will accommodate future expansion without causing problems.

When setting up telecommunications rooms, also make sure that horizontal cabling terminates directly to a telecom outlet and not to a device that is application-specific. Use equipment cords or patch cables to connect the networking equipment with the cables. For instance, you should never setup a horizontal cabling in a manner that it directly comes out of the wall and then you plug it into a network adapter or phone.

Apart from the telecommunications rooms and the telecommunications enclosures, it is also important to ensure that all other parts of the network are setup properly. The only way to come up with a good structured cable system is to seek services of experts in this field. There are many structured cabling companies out there but you will need to choose the best among them if you want the best system.
